Birthday #31

This was a long over due blog post and I am finally publishing it. This was supposed to be my birthday post, but I got caught up with a lot of things. So here you go....

April 23 was not just an ordinary day, it was the day that I turned 31! Yay!!!
Just the thought of it makes me giggle and at the same time a bit afraid. About 5 years ago, I made a decision not to deny my age and instead defy it. I hope I am doing it right. To make the day a bit special, I decided to write a letter to my younger self.

Dear Pretty Lady -
Today as you turn 31, celebrate all that you are. Spend the day exactly the way you wanted it without having second thoughts, just be mindful of the sugar. ☺
I can still clearly remember you when you were 15 and 25 and I wanna tell you some things that will guide you as you go through your life.

1. Don't worry to much. Life gets better everyday
There will be days that you don't want to end because you wanted to linger on the good feelings and then there will be days that you just want to give up because things are not going your way. Hold on tight to your dreams, trust the process and trust His promises. Things will get better. You just have to keep on working while waiting for the right time.

2. Your parents truly love you and want the best for you
You may not understand them most of the time, but listen to them. Trust them. Love them. Honor them. They will be always be there when everyone else turns back at you.

3. Be grateful
Gratitude leads to more happiness and well being. A grateful heart is a magnet for miracles. I read somewhere - If you are always grateful for the little things it's hard to avoid happiness. It's a lack of gratitude that often keep us feeling down.

4. Let yourself be ridiculously happy
Happiness is not a circumstance, it’s a mindset.Don’t take yourself so seriously all the time. Laugh often. Laugh from your belly whenever possible. You wont always be perfectly happy, but you will always find something to be happy with.

5. Have a beauty routine
Put your sunscreen everyday. You will thank yourself a few years from now. Don't sleep with your make up on. Always wash your face before going to sleep and use a toner and moisturizer. Sleep at least 7 hours every day and please hydrate. You will save a lot of money by drinking enough water. Learn how to do your own make up. Always do your eyebrow, it says a lot of things about you. Find the perfect shade of lipstick and always have it handy.

6. Keep on Growing
Find ways to learn new skills. Make time to enroll in that baking class that you've been eyeing for years now. Stick with your yearly reading challenge - 1 book every month. Listen to podcasts. Attend workshops and classes. Meet new people. Find a mentor.

7. Strengthen Your Relationships
Always have that time with the Lord in the morning. Read your bible and always prioritize attending church services. Have a regular prayer time. Commit to the regular date with your trusted and safe friends. Use the current technology to communicate and to regularly update everyone. Make the relationship work and do not expect it to just happen. When at home, be with the family and stop using the phone too much.

There are a lot of things that I wanted to stay, but that's just it for now. Please know that you are doing well even if no one is saying that to you. You are winning in life even if no one notices it. As what was said in the movie, Nemo - just keep on swimming. Keep on acting and working on your dreams. You are in the planting phase, but in time you will reap all the rewards of your hard work.

Happy Birthday Pretty Lady!!!!
